Quintessential kitchens by Laurence llewelyn-bowen
Quintessential Kitchens is a luxury kitchen range created by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. The brand was licensed exclusively to independent kitchen makers across the UK, protecting local craftsmanship and keeping the range out of the hands of big monopolies.
The Brief
I was commissioned to create the full brand identity and supporting design work. The goal was to balance high-end style with accessibility, giving the range a strong, timeless identity that could sit comfortably in premium showrooms but still feel approachable for customers.
The brand identity started with the logo, which combines modern elegance with a subtle nod to heritage. Typography and colour choices were carefully selected to reinforce the sense of quality and exclusivity. Alongside this, and in collaboration with the Marketing Lead, we created a full set of visual assets, marketing materials and brand guidelines to ensure consistency across every touchpoint.
A key part of the project was making sure the brand worked for a network of independent kitchen makers. Each showroom needed to be able to use the identity in a practical, flexible way while still keeping the premium feel of the range. The final design system achieved this through clear rules, adaptable layouts and a strong but simple set of brand elements.
The Quintessential Kitchens range included four core product lines, each with their own characteristics but tied together under one brand umbrella. My work helped define how these ranges were presented, ensuring clarity for both showrooms and customers.
Working on this project was a great example of design being used to support more than just aesthetics. By keeping the brand licensed to independent makers, it helped protect traditional skills and preserve choice in the marketplace. The identity needed to reflect that – rooted in quality, but also grounded in values of independence and integrity.
The Process
To develop the brand, I worked closely with the independent kitchen makers themselves, listening to their needs and understanding how they wanted to present the range in their showrooms. This collaborative approach meant the final identity was not only visually striking but also highly practical. It was designed with the end user in mind – simple for showrooms to apply, yet powerful enough to make an impression in a competitive luxury market.
The result
The final result was a bold, confident brand that captured Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s vision while giving showrooms the tools they needed to sell the range effectively. From logo and brand assets through to marketing materials, the identity gave Quintessential Kitchens a clear and recognisable voice in a competitive market.
Value
Quintessential Kitchens remains an example of how creative design can strengthen independent businesses while protecting the character of a luxury brand.
